Sniping

I was only thinking to myself the other day that it had been a long time since I saw one of my all time most favourite birds. Of course I saw one shortly thereafter - Wilson's snipe.

I'm not sure why I like these little chaps so much but they really are one of my favourites. Something about their small size being combined with a huge bill, their watchful habits and that lovely chestnut and cream patterning.

Nice. I got these two shots and then as I moved through the site lost the snipe completely. I knew I was inevitably going to flush it as a result of not knowing where it was and flush it I did....but not before finding it made my morning.
