An ancient amongst ancients

Granite Gorge is a chunk of Queensland that is a bit of a dry patch within the wet tropics, grassland and eucalpts cover a shallow granite based soil and it's here I found my first wild cycads. I'll do a fuller post on these wild Cycas media at some point in the future but for now just drink in the scale of this plant and try to imagine how old it was.



This was probably an old plant well before Europeans set foot on this continent....

PS - sorry for the slightly shaky camera work at the start. One day I'll learn not to walk and film at the same time.
