This is a relatively small one and he's ideally placed here to either launch out (if he thinks he can eat me (or more likely a small fish or crustacean)) or back straight into that tiny hole for safety. Octo's this size tend to be fairly curious and relaxed around people. They may well disappear into rock crevices immediately on seeing a diver but they tend to keep an eye out and may well re-emerge for a closer look whilst retaining the option to bolt. Always fun to see these guys and hopefully I'll see a few when I finally get back into indopacific waters for the first time in 3 years in a couple of months.
