Neotropical birds have the most exotic names, ever more complicated combinations of words describing both their appearance and their taxonomy. antshrikes, antwrens, tyrants, buff-backed, streak-headed, bronze-winged and so on. Its rather a lot to take in on your first visit even if they make sense ultimately. This guy has a very cool name, Cattle Tyrant, which for me conjures all sorts of images of cowboy film villains.
They seem confident sorts, bobbing about the lawn (these were in Venezuela btw) picking up big bugs and similar fare. This one in particular was very talkative. As you can see I couldn't get a shot where his beak was closed.
