Or should that be cootlets? or cooticles? Anyhoo baby coots have appeared at the salt pond.

Whilst I don't like to play favourites I'm a little disappointed these are american coots not caribbean coots. Although breeding records for the yank coot are rare (this may be the first) here, Caribbean coot is much rarer on a global scale so I'd like to see them do well here.

Baby coots are ugly, nowhere near as cute as baby clapper rails.....but their mommas still love 'em.
