Listing

Since I first encountered the natureblogosphere one of the aspects of it that have often got me interested more than anything else were other people's lists. Usually there was a timing factor in the form of a year list but there were often other motivators or issues too that got me hooked into a sort of nature-watching soap opera as people go out of their way to see something special and tick a box on a list. This year the 10,000 birds duo of Charlie and Corey are doing vastly different but equally interesting lists. Chris Mills' insane 2005 non-motorised county list and Farnboro john's 2007 UK mammal efforts also stick out. For the past 1 1/2 years I've been keeping a national list here on my little islands too. I have 140-odd species to shoot at and i've set myself the highly unrealistic goal of a century by 1/1/2009. Here's the state of play.
