So that's how they do it.

I've put a few nice stingray photos up on this blog and they have without exception been taken in deep water (see here, here and, my personal favourite; here)....which may make you wonder how people get stung (Steve Irwin-esque freak incidents aside). This is how.

This was one of many juvenile southern stingrays we saw in water as shallow as 6 inches this weekend. This one was notable in that when I waded in to take a photo it stood its ground. Just another reason to keep an eye on the water when wading in the tropics - I'll be posting some other interesting reasons soon.
