another stingray

So here, before I forget, is the other blue-spotted stingray following on from yesterday's post. This is Dasyatis kuhlii, a true stingray with a proper pointy nose. As you can see it behaves like a proper stingray that hides in the sand rather than yesterday's golden frisbee. The rather attractive whitebanding on its tail at least serves to flag the stinger to you and during my time in the Philippines it was spotting that stinger at the last minute that saved me from a stinging.

Like yesterday's ray though it is generally quite docile and while I do know of divers getting stung by them, its generally through unwittingly kneeling on them to take a picture of something else whilst muckdiving.
