Nerine sarniensis is known in English as the Guernsey Lily (and sarniensis means off Guernsey) which is quite a marketing triumph for the little island in the English channel considering the lily comes from South Africa. Here's a selection of cultivars for no reason beyond the fact they are flowering now and I came across an epic collection last week.....

It was a dark and stormy night, the ship was wrecked, the bulbs washed ashore. Naturalised there. One day a beautiful woman became known as the Jersey Lily.
Thanks for stopping by EE. Alas they are not naturalised on Guernsey although the related Nerine bowdenii is grown in gardens. It seems likely its named for having received some of the first bulbs which is a rather boring tale compared to the shipwreck one.
