Frogs are tremendously diverse animals. Around the world there are burrowing desert frogs, high altitude stream frogs, tree frogs, tiny dart frogs and huge predatory frogs. There are also genereric pondy type frogs.
I wouldn't particularly give this a second look anywhere in europe or north america but this was taken in a riverside pool in Sri Lanka.
Recent surveys have increased the number of frog species known from Sri Lanka to over 100 so heaven knows what this is. I do know however that in spite of it being from Southern Sri Lanka this animal is definitely not a specimen of that region's famous Mexican Staring species......
