Get in ma belly!

I'm afraid I don't have as nice a shot of this lovely bamboo - its a little difficult to photograph. This is Bambusa ventricosa often known as the Buddha's Belly Bamboo.

The idea being the little muffintop looking bulge between the nodes on each culm look like a Buddha's belly. It looks so different from other bamboos I'm rather taken with it. I'm fairly sure I've seen the canes used as walking sticks and other ornaments too unless there is a similar looking species.

this one was in an ornamental garden out here in the caribbean but its fairly common worldwide as an ornamental. I'm not sure quite how hardy it is though.
