Big in impact, big in size, Dioon spinulosum is a seriously cool cycad. Orginating from evergreen limestone forests in mountainous areas of mexico, it's a beautiful plant already relatively common in the horticulture industry (by cycad standards). It has the benefits of pretty, blue green fronds and beautiful symmetrical structure and it's relatively fast growing.
Due to asian scale killing or damaging Cycas sp. in a lot of areas this stunning plant may well have a big future as the cycad of lawns and landscaping. It can, also if given the opportunity, do something very few cycads can do - get absolutely massive (in the way we see cycads in paintings of dinosaurs get massive): a pair in LA are over 25 feet tall.
