Really Giant Sequoia week #5 - The Lincoln Tree

The Lincoln Tree in Giant Forest Grove is the 5th largest Sequoia, Sequoiadendron giganteum, (and by extension living thing) in the world. The Lincoln Tree is named for President Lincoln (as opposed to Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England - the home of the world's greatest pork sausages) and is the second Sequoia so named. A second Lincoln Tree exists in Grant Grove which I'll feature sometime.

The stats on the Lincoln Tree are as follows:
  • 255.8 feet high
  • 98.3 feet in circumference; and
  • 44,471 cubic feet in volume.
As you can see this huge Sequoia is deep in the forest at Giant Forest Grove and unfortunately it's girth, position and the light level make it a shocker to photograph.
