.....for the last couple of weekends to try and find the perfect flamingos tongue for a photo project. Of course now I want one all the ones I find have been chewed on or are sat at silly angles, have poorly coloured mantles or are sat on something disgusting looking. This is the best of the bunch so far.

That is a great photo! I have to admit that, at first, the markings made me think that it was something man-made. I had to Google to find out what it really was.
Thanks for posting this -- I always enjoy starting the day by seeing something new and interesting!

Hey Kd - thanks! If you search this blog for "tongue" you should find a few more examples (and also the similar but infinitely cooler fingerprint cyphoma).
Just found your site on Best Green Blogs. Love your photos! We're going to add your link to our eco art blog TheGreenPalette.blogspot.com. Look forward to your future posts, keep up the great work!

I was just reading a post on Simple Things (http://jennbenn.wordpress.com/2008/08/30/after-the-rains)
and there's a photo of a moth with surprisingly similar markings to those on the flamingos tongue. Thought I'd share the "find".

Hmmm -- Simple Thing's URL doesn't fit in a line. The URL should end with "after-the-rains"
