Black and white birds

So I'm somewhat conscious that the Wind segment of Earth, Wind & Water has been somewhat neglected of late. There's a good reason for this which is simply that unfortunately development work on one side and storm damage on the other has blocked access to the best birding site on the island. Hopefully we'll be back to normal soon and the land and sea aspects have kept you suitably edutained. in the meantime here's an out of focus avocet from last November at Gibraltar Point:

As you can probably tell conditions were far from ideal for digiscoping which was a real shame as this sole avocet was feeding really well with that great sweep feeding motion they have.

At the time he was on his own but by now he'll have been joined by several dozen others - all evidence of the avocet's excellent self-recovery from local extinction in the UK.
