Wilson's plover

The first of the hurricane birds was one new for my national list (charging up to 73) - Wilson's plover, Charadrius wilsonia.

Now usually these Charadrius plovers are rather smart with black markings and breast bands like this kildeer, this chap by contrast is, well, brown. The one below has at least chosen to accessorise with some bling on the right leg.

Like their more colourful genus mates though these guys have a bit of character; they run around everywhere looking very excited pecking stuff with a ridiculously big bill and I like them.

Hopefully these incomers will stick around but judging by the way this chap's eyeing me I think he's counting the days til he returns home.
