Beetlemania

The scientist JBS Haldane is rather a hero of mine. Not least because among his many scientific accomplishments were doing the rather brutal experimental work (see the wiki link) required to develop the first understanding of diving decompression and the basic decompression algorythyms still bear the name Haldanean.

When asked what his studies of evolutionary biology had taught him about the "creator" he responded that "he must have an inordinate fondness for beetles".

Haldane's point was that beetle species represent some 25% of animal life, this rhino type beetle was struggling with the stairs outside a Filippino hotel
