I'm not sure who's doing the chasing or what sex is which (or even whether Conches are hermaphrodites) but I'm fairly sure this was the prelude to the production of more baby queen conches -
stombus gigas. This used to be on its way to being a very rare species due to its popularity as a seafood. However strict regulation and the success of
conch farming aquaculture operations should secure its future and the future of lovely
conch recipes for our tables. We are now even seeing tiny baby conchs appearing as
captive-bred aquarium stock.
