Seal Island

This is the Cape's famous Seal Island. If you watch those documentaries on Discovery about the Great White Shark, such as Air Jaws (or indeed the recent shark scenes from Planet Earth on BBC), this was the location they were filmed.


This picture was taken on a stormy day last november. You can see the reason the whites turn up here and the reason for the islands name; the Cape Fur Seals sat on the shore pondering when to go fishing (when they go, they will go on mass to run the gauntlet in numbers).



Circling above are Cape Cormorants. I think you will agree that with the prehistoric looking cornmorants above, the white sharks potentially below and the storm clouds forming its a pretty ominous view. Oh and by the way it smells a bit from the guano.
