Daffodils - part 1

For the past few years my parents have grown a dozen or so troughs of forced daffodils each year to provide some early spring colour to their front garden. Every year sees a few hundred bulbs of various interesting varieties and when they are finished blooming they go into the garden. The result is that the garden is now covered in blooms in all shades of yellow orange and cream.

I'm sure when most people think of daffodils they think of something like this:

but I've always been a fan of more unusual bulbs like this:

or this:

both of which are multiplying just as prolifically as their more common cousins. There are hundreds of varieties so I guess the message is don't be afraid to experiment. A few more to follow.

Lovely... I have wonderful visions of your parents' yard. We used to visit a place in Northern California called Daffodil Hill where there were acres of daffodils - breathtaking

Beautiful! I love the variety. Do you have photos of the garden? I love to see fields of daffodils - they were so much a part of my English childhood.

thank you both - alas no photos of the whole garden; it doesn't lend itself to wide photos - lots of little corners.
