Singapore Orchids

Singapore Botanic Gardens has an important place in history. It was here that a shipment of rubber saplings germinated at RBG Kew was acclimatised to Asia, grown on, propagated and used to found the Asian rubber industry. Now the garden's role is a sa park and educational facility and as the home of Singapore's National Orchid Gardens.

I took a load of pictures of the various species and rather than subject you to loads full size and hence slow load times, I made a mosaic using fd's flickrtoys - they have some pretty cool tools for messing around with your flickr photos.

Orchids are also farmed in Singapore and exported as cutflowers - the ubiquitous Singapore Orchids. This bed at the SBG shows Singapore's national flower, Vanda "Miss Joaquim", being grown in the agricultural style.
